Maintenance and Care

  • Do pavers need to be sealed? While not strictly required, sealing is recommended every 3-5 years to protect against stains, UV damage, and to keep the color vibrant.

  • How do I prevent weeds between pavers? Use polymeric sand in the joints, which hardens when activated by water and prohibits weed growth.

  • Can I use salt to melt ice on pavers? Rock salt is generally acceptable, but magnesium chloride or other chloride products should be avoided as they may damage the pavers and void warranties.

  • How do I fix a sunken paver? One of the benefits of interlocking pavers is that they can be easily removed, the base underneath re-leveled, and the same pavers re-installed without visible patches.

Pavers & Brick Works FAQs

What is the difference between clay and concrete pavers? Clay pavers are made from natural clay fired in a kiln, offering long-lasting color, while concrete pavers are formed from a concrete mix, providing more variety in shapes and colors.

What does "interlocking" mean? Interlocking paving consists of concrete or brick units that are laid over a flexible base (sand) and locked together with sand in the joints. This creates a durable, flexible surface that resists cracking.

How long do pavers last? With proper installation and maintenance, paver projects can last over 25–50 years.

Are brick pavers more expensive than concrete? Generally, brick pavers can cost up to two times more than concrete pavers

What is the best base for a paver project? A stable foundation is critical, consisting of 4–6 inches of compacted gravel for walkways and 8–12 inches for driveways, followed by a 1-inch layer of sand.

Can I install pavers over existing concrete? Yes, but they must be specifically designed for overlay, and you must ensure the existing concrete has proper drainage and is in good structural condition.

How long must I wait to use my new driveway/patio? Paving stone driveways can be used immediately after installation and joint sanding are finished.

What is efflorescence? It is a whitish, powdery haze that can appear on the surface of concrete pavers. It is natural and can be removed with special cleaners
